Marbles
We carried a
Small cloth bag
With a drawstring
Close
It held our
Treasured marbles
Peeries, and cat eyes
Some plain ones
That we could sacrifice
In a game of “keeps”
It held our special
Marbles and maybe a
Steely and a Clay shooter
In a circle
Drawn in the dirt
On the playground
During recess
We would
Challenge friends
To a game
And sometimes play
For keeps.
